Questions from and responses to citizens:

Q: When can we expect Indian Creek to be dredged?

PDFPrintE-mail

From Rick Daniels:

There had been talk that Indian Creek in the Old Wythe Neighborhood would be dredged to reduce the amount of flooding that occurs around the streets of Harbor Drive, Ocanoe and Powhatan Parkway. With Federal assistance available is this going to be planned?

My house continues to flood when there is a Nor'easter. Dredging of Indian Creek to a 7 foot level would reduce the amount of flooding that has occurred in both November and in December.

Rick Daniels

Mr. Daniels,

Thanks for your question.

Partial funding in the City’s General Fund for FY10 has been appropriated for dredging of Indian Creek; however, private property issues need to be resolved before the City can proceed with the work. Regarding federal assistance, there is no federal funding assistance available for this particular project.

Presently, design and permitting effort is underway. The next step will be to hold a public meeting with the property owners to discuss easement and liability issues.

Thanks for taking the time to submit your question.
